Chief Peter Davis

Peter Davis

Peter Davis is the Chief of the Galveston Island Beach Patrol and of the Park Board Police Department. He started working for Beach Patrol in 1983.  He is the Secretary General of the Americas Region of the International Lifesaving Federation, as well as the Vice President of the United States Lifesaving Association. He holds a B.A. in Psychology from Trinity University and a M.F.A in Studio Art from the University of California-Davis.

Peter is an instructor for USLA and Red Cross open water lifeguarding, Red Cross Emergency Medical Response and personal water craft rescue. He is an Emergency Medical Technician, Texas Peace Officer, Marine Safety Enforcement Officer, Emergency Vehicle Operator, Swift Water Technician, Public Safety Diver, and is certified in the NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 levels. He is actively involved in training Mexican lifeguards and he coordinates a lifeguard exchange program with Galveston’s sister city, Veracruz. He was the lead instructor for several international efforts to train the first open water lifeguard instructors for the beaches in Venezuela.  Peter was selected as Aquatic International Magazine’s “Power 25”, one of the 25 most influential people in aquatics.  He produced and co-wrote the educational video “Texas Beaches- Know the Dangers”, winner of both the National Telly and Communicators Awards. In addition he co-edited the Spanish edition of the USLA Manual.

 

Captain Tony Pryor

Operation Supervisor

Tony Pryor is the Captain and Operations Supervisor of Galveston Island Beach Patrol.  His first year on Beach Patrol was 1998. Tony serves as Certification Committee Chair of the United States Lifesaving Association, as well as Head Coach of the Galveston Island Swim Team. He holds a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston.

Tony is an instructor for USLA and Red Cross open water lifeguarding, Red Cross Emergency Medical Response and personal water craft rescue. He is an Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Vehicle Operator, Swift Water Technician, Basic Open Water SCUBA Diver, and is certified in the NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 levels.

Lieutenant Kara Harrison

Kara Harrison is a Water Safety Officer and the Administrative Officer for Galveston Island Beach Patrol.  She started working for Beach Patrol in 2005. Kara holds a B.S. in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University- Galveston.

Kara is an instructor for USLA and Red Cross open water lifeguarding, Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder and personal water craft rescue. She is a Texas Peace Officer, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Vehicle Operator, Certified Swim Coach, Swift Water Technician, Basic Open Water SCUBA Diver, and is certified in the NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 levels.

 

Officer Joe Cerdas

Joe Cerdas is a Supervisor for Galveston Island Beach Patrol. He started working for Beach Patrol in 2005, and was a junior guard.

Joe is a Red Cross Emergency Medical Response and personal water craft rescue. He is a Texas Peace Officer, Marine Safety Enforcement Officer, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Vehicle Operator, Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder, Swift Water Technician, Basic Open Water SCUBA Diver, and is certified in the NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 levels.

 

 

Officer Austin Kirwin

Austin Kirwin is a Supervisor for Galveston Island Beach Patrol.  He started working for Beach Patrol in 2007, and was a junior guard for 6 year before. Austin is currently on leave to the United States Air Force Reserve and is a member of the Air National Guard based at Ellington Field.

Austin is an instructor for USLA open water lifeguarding, Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder and personal water craft rescue. He is a Texas Peace Officer, Marine Safety Enforcement Officer, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Vehicle Operator, Basic Open Water SCUBA Diver, and is certified in the NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 levels.
