Spend your summer on the beach in a fun, challenging, and responsible position working for Galveston Island Beach Patrol!
(Note selections are made on a competitive basis)
Lifeguards will be scheduled according to their availability, but are expected to work full-time, especially weekends and holidays, throughout the summer. Beach lifeguarding is very physically demanding and guards are expected to maintain adequate levels of fitness at all times.

Interested applicants must complete the following:
Both the Online Application and Physical Waiver must be complete prior to tryouts. Please bring Physical Waiver, ID (Federal, State or Passport) and Social Security Card (International applications bring proper work visas and/or documents).
Applicants will come to one of three Tryout Dates with a completed Application and Physical Examination Letter (signed by a physician). At the tryout applicants will have to swim 500 meters in 9 minutes or less in the UTMB Field House pool. Everyone who passes the swim will participate in an interview. Tryout and interview participants are generally finished by 1:00pm. Once applicant passes these two steps, they will be invited to participate in the Run-Swim-Run held at Stewart Beach. Once the Run-Swim-Run is successfully completed applicant must pass a urine drug screen. Applicants who meet all the above qualification will be allowed to join the Lifeguard Academy starting immediately after the drug screen.
The course consists of 120 hours of training including 1st Aid, CPR, Beach Guarding, and Physical Training. Lifeguard candidates will be paid a training wage for the time they spend in the training course. Upon successful completion of the Lifeguard Academy, candidates will be promoted to Lifeguard 1 status and will be eligible to work for The Galveston Island Beach Patrol. **Bring Driver’s License and Social Security Card (or other I-9 accepted Identification) to the first day of the Lifeguard Training Academy, or you will not be allowed to attend!**
Returning lifeguards must complete the following:
Must be on time! Bring a copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card, and the Physical Examination Letter (signed by a physician) to be allowed re-qualify.
Lifeguards must swim 500 meters in 10 minutes or less and pass a urine drug screen on that date. Supervisors must swim 500 meters in 9 minutes or less and pass a urine drug screen on that date.
